Etude, 2001, installation view (1), Chelouche Gallery, Tel Aviv

In the exhibition the statue The Chair is exhibited (a downsized, golden covered chair, showcased in a magnificent box). This statue acts as the source for a series of manipulations: 16 computer sketches, 16 photographs, 16 paper cuttings covered with gold of each of the chair's perspectives, and 6 photographs from the television.

This exhibition is a continuance to Gechtman's ongoing occupation with the relations between the "Low" and the "High", the original and the image, the natural and the artificial and their representation.

The depiction of reality is done through its duplication or through intervention with the object. The objects aren't "Ready- Made" in their common sense, they impersonate ones. In this way the gap between the original and its image occur. The original itself is too, an image. The downsized chair is not an "object" in our world, but an image, from which all manipulations are done. The inner dialogue between the original and its images creates a system of reflections of each other's perspective.
