Nadav Weissman’s works have engaged in a long-term dialogue with the work of Moshe Kupferman, grounded in a deep affinity not only with Kupferman’s formal language, but also with the way drawing embodies action. In Kupferman’s work, the line, the layer, the erasure, and the accumulation are not merely visual devices, but traces of an ongoing process in which the painting is simultaneously constructed and revealed. Weissman echoes this approach, translating it from the two-dimensional plane into space and material: acts of sawing, cutting, engraving, and drawing in graphite produce layers that are at once material, painterly, and archaeological. The encounter between the works creates a space of resonance and difference: while in Kupferman’s work the layers and marks accumulate on the surface of the paper, in Weissman’s they extend beyond the support, open into space, and generate gaps within it. In this way, a dialogue emerges between two artistic practices concerned with acts of accumulation and subtraction, and with the ways in which the trace of an action becomes an image.
