KaBe Contemporary is pleased to present “Ups and Downs Landscape” featuring works by Israeli Artist Nadav Weissman. In his first U.S solo show, Weissman’s paintings and installations employ the disturbing imagery of horses, tunnels, sleeping heads, deserted houses and inverted trees to create a landscape of great suggestive power. In his current body of works he uses plywood as both a sub-base for his paintings and construction material for his sculptures, as he manages to balance his bold imagery and tough execution with the material’s fragile physicality. Weissman’s work raises a different approach to understand the world we live in, throughout a story we cannot read from beginning to end.

A series of landscapes questions the conception of ground, sky and the horizon with an “archeological” sense that powerfully challenges the memory and the certainty of everything, even the force of gravity.

Ups and Downs Landscape charts the path of a mental and psychological thrust, on the move across a landscape at once highly personal–and utterly universal and contemporary. This exhibition invites us to engage in a journey only guided by the artist’s thoughts.

Nadav Weissman (b. 1969) currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. His work has been showcased in the Israel Museum (2012), Haifa Museum of Art (2009), MARCO, Vigo, Spain (2006) and MUSAC, Leon, Spain(2006) among other venues. He’s participated in the Busan Biennale (2006) and received the Prize in Art from the ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Israel in 2005.
