“Fragments” by Tal Amiai-Lavi is part of the Israeli-Palestinian Pavilion at Nakanojo Biennale, Japan. The Israeli-Palestinian pavilion, curated by Shir Meller Yamaguchi contains an exhibition titled ‘Neither Black Nor White’, a collaboration between 6 Israeli and Palestinian artist; Manar Zuabi, Uri Gersht, Maya Cohen Levi, Farid Abu Shakra, Tal Amitai-Lavi and Noa Yekutieli, exploring the tension between formation and destruction.
Amitai-Lavi’s project, “Fragments”, is an installation made of small-scaled, black and white works: a combination of two bodies of work : on the one hand, drawings of destroyed houses made of a black sewing thread, on the other hand, landscapes of trees made of baking soda and glue. Both supposed to create spaces/worlds whose foundations are fragile and disintegrating.
